Learning network facility management in schools
To support Flemish schools in the sustainable and efficient management of their facility operations (energy, ventilation, maintenance of installations and buildings, etc.), the Flemish Department of Education and Training launched a learning network, in line with the Masterplan School Construction 2.0. Commissioned by the government, Odisee organized the project Learning Network for Sustainable and Professional Facility Management in Schools from 2023 to 2025.
Summary
The network brought together educational institutions around the theme of sustainable facility management. Through school visits, theme days, seminars, and active hands-on sessions, facility managers (regardless of their job title) had the opportunity to learn from each other and from experts. Participants were also able to network with colleagues from other schools facing similar challenges.
The project offered inspiration, knowledge sharing, and practical tools, with the aim of empowering schools in their own sustainability journey. Each activity focused on one or more aspects of professional facility management. Participation was entirely free and open to all educational institutions in Flanders.
The knowledge and tools developed during the project remain available for schools that wish to continue working toward sustainable facility policies after the project’s conclusion.
