Study Fee
Tuition fees in higher education are the fees you pay to study. Exactly how much you pay depends on several factors:
- whether you meet the financial requirements of the Division of Student Grants to determine your entitlement to a scholarship;
- the number of credits for which you are enrolling (only for non-scholarship and near-scholarship students);
- the balance of your learning credit (only for non-scholarship students);
There are three fees applicable:
-
1
The non-scholarship rate
This regular rate you pay if you do not meet the financial conditions of the Division of Study Grants and are therefore not entitled to a study grant from the Flemish government.
-
2
The near-scholarship rate
Students who do not qualify for a scholarship but have limited financial resources are called "near scholarship students. They are eligible for a reduction in tuition costs. Conditions for this near scholarship rate can be found through this link.
-
3
The scholarship rate
This is the lowest rate and is always a fixed fee, regardless of your learning credit or the number of credits you take. You pay this rate when you meet the financial requirements of a scholarship.

When do I pay my tuition fee?
After the processing of your enrollment or re-enrollment, you will receive an account statement for the payment of your tuition by mail.
In a first phase, you will pay only the fixed cost of your enrollment. After approval of your Individual Study Program (ISP), you will receive a second statement of account via mail .
In addition to the tuition fee, you should also count on programme-specific costs. Fees vary by program!
Payment in instalments?
Additional (financial) support
Both the Flemish government and the Student Services Department (STUVO) try to help you as much as possible to make studying financially feasible. Therefore, there are several initiatives from these services. Discover them here:
Application tuition fee calculation
If you receive a scholarship from the Flemish government, you will pay the scholarship rate. Are you not entitled to a scholarship from the Flemish government because you no longer have a scholarship or joker credit, because you are enrolled with a credit contract or do not (no longer) meet the pedagogical conditions but do meet the financial conditions? Then you may still qualify for the scholarship or near scholarship rate!
Download the "Application Form for Tuition Calculations" to the right and contact a staff member at your campus at the bottom of this page.
Do you still have questions?
For questions about tuition, its calculation and the account statement, please contact the Student Administration Department.

Do you have any questions regarding financial support?
Do you no longer have a scholarship or joker credit? Enrolled with a credit contract? Do you not meet the educational conditions (anymore), but you do meet the financial ones? Then you may also be eligible for the scholarship/near scholarship rate! Contact a staff member at your campus to check this out for you.
